The STARS program announces the Class of 2023

The Strategic Training Achievements for Research Success (STARS) program is pleased to announce the selection of 28 trainees for the Class of 2023.

Funded by the National Cancer Institute (D43 CA260640), we are  committed to support cancer research that enables equitable impactful global scientific collaboration by strengthening institutional capacity in low-and middle-income countries for global cancer research. The STARS program aims to create a cadre of individuals who will obtain fundamental skills to lead and support cancer research in Sub-Saharan Africa (SSA) who will be able to disseminate best practices for high quality cancer research conducted in Africa.

The training is comprised of two tracks:

  • The PI Track, for doctoral level talented early-career SSA researchers committed to a career in cancer research to gain expertise in research oversight and governance, build research skills, a scientific project focus, and apply for independent grant funding.
  • PM Track, for talented project managers living and working in SSA to develop skills to better manage cancer research projects.

The 10 PI track, and 18 PM track candidates were selected through a rigorous selection process during which applications were reviewed by an external advisory board and an internal review committee.

Congratulations to our D43 STARS Class of 2023!
